Local food systems are more likely to provide fresher more nutritious food.  In order to be self-sustaining local agriculture must acknowledge local environmental conditions and work with them instead of against them.  Through the process of localization people become more connected to the land and a true relationship can be established.  And finally, local food systems use local marketing that brings people together.  Local markets keep money local instead of shipping it out of a community.  The scale of economy will shrink, reducing the dependence of a community on outside resources.
